PowerPump Cuts Six Weeks from Webcor’s Construction Schedule at SF General Hospital
For the residents of San Francisco and Northern San Mateo County, completion of the 284 bed San Francisco General Hospital Replacement cannot arrive soon enough. Once opened in 2015, the new hospital will serve as San Francisco’s only Level 1 Trauma Center. Webcor Builders, the prime contractor for the project, sought innovative approaches to expedite the construction schedule. The company selected Floor Seal Technology’s PowerPump System for the application of the concrete moisture emission control and substrate leveling system.
Moisture Emission Control Needed on Nine Different Levels
Given the critical importance of this project, and Webcor’s knowledge of moisture-related flooring issues, it was decided that a concrete moisture emission control system would be applied to every slab receiving a floor finish. Considering the nine levels spanned nearly 450,000 square feet of the hospital, Webcor estimated the process to take at least three months to complete.
PowerPump Cuts More than 40 Days off Expected Timeline
Floor Seal’s PowerPump System allowed the concrete moisture emission control and slab leveling work to begin seven days after each concrete slab was poured. By applying the system to the entire slab before interior walls were erected (an obstacle that can significantly increase the time and cost of an application), Floor Seal was able to complete the nine 50,000-square-foot levels in three days each, shaving six weeks off Webcor’s expected timeline. This enabled the remaining construction to start ahead of schedule.
